EP’s First Song “Run” To Be Released Friday, July 31 Across All Digital Service Providers

Platinum-selling singer-songwriter Lauren Alaina, releases her new song “Run” on Friday (July 31), across all digital service providers. “Run,” co-written by Alaina, Ben Johnson and Kennedi, is the first song from the multi-award winner’s upcoming new EP, Getting Over Him, coming September 4.

“I wrote ‘Run’ with Ben Johnson and Kennedi,” said Alaina. “We are all running. Constantly. Non-Stop. Even in this quarantine, we are all still the busiest we’ve ever been. Life just keeps going and going and going in unbelievable paces as we try to race ourselves to the next thing. My idea with the song was to refer to examples of all things that run because no matter what your walk of life is we are all racing to the next thing. We are all trying to get where we are going. We all get our hearts broken. We all have these childhood dreams. We ‘run’ to make it all happen.”

“Music is my lifeline,” said Alaina. “Music literally pulls me out of everything I ever go through [career, heartbreak, family, self-worth, love] and I feel really empowered with this music. I feel like this music shows my personal growth and my emotional growth. This EP of songs is all about loving myself through other people not loving me and not staying with me. It’s about me being able to get back to that same confident girl I wrote about on Road Less Travelled and to hold on to that confidence. I get to celebrate that with this music and I am so excited. I can’t wait for the fans to hear it.”

Getting Over Him features two duets, including the title track duet with her labelmate and friend Jon Pardi. “I’ve done duets with other people for their projects, but I have never done any for my own,” says Alaina. “I’ve got a duet with Pardi on his album, and then he loved this one [“Getting Over Him”]. His energy is so amazing. I can’t believe I have a rebound song – but I do. (Laughs).

The Georgia native also enlisted International pop sensation Lukas Graham to duet with her on her most vulnerable and heartbreaking “What Do You Think Of?” “Lukas Graham’s vocal on this is ridiculous,” said Alaina. “I am the most nervous about releasing this one because I was so vulnerable when I wrote it. Most of my songs come from more of a sassy and empowered place and this song comes from a really broken place. But I think it’s important because it is a part of who I am. It’s a part of what I went through. And if I am going to be honest in my music I have to share songs like that too.”

Alaina, one of the hottest rising female artists in country music, is making her way up the country singles chart with her current radio single “Getting Good,” the title track to the EP. Last month the Georgia native released, across all digital platforms, a special mix of “Getting Good” which features her friend/mentor, superstar Trisha Yearwood.

Alaina has most recently performed on the 40th annual broadcast of the top-rated PBS special “A Capitol Fourth performing “This Land Is My Land,” CMA Summer Stay-Cay livestream special where she performed “Women of Summer” with Lindsay Ell and Cassadee Pope as well as “Say It With a Song” Game with Devin Dawson and HARDY as well as CMT’s Benefit Concert for Love & Acceptance and she and her friend Kane Brown performed their 5XPlatinum-selling “What Ifs” on the recent nationally-televised CMA Best of Fest on ABC.

After the release of the fun, nostalgic “Ladies in the ’90s,” followed by the deeply personal track “The Other Side,” Lauren Alaina is letting fans in on the full scope of her upcoming six-song EP, Getting Good, which releases March 6.

Alaina co-wrote five of the EP’s tracks, with the exception of the title track, which was penned solely by songwriter and pop artist Emily Weisband. Jesse Frasure and David Garcia each produced and co-wrote tracks on the project.

Thursday night (Feb. 13), Alaina opened the first show on Blake Shelton’s Friends & Heroes Tour 2020 in Portland, Oregon. The tour continues tonight in Tacoma, Washington, and includes upcoming shows in Spokane, Washington; Bakersfield, California; Denver, Colorado and more.

Lauren Alaina’s That Girl Was Me Tour took on a whole new meaning at a recent show when the singer saw herself in a young fan. The “Getting Good” singer posted a photo of a young girl hugging her and visibly sobbing as she met her in a meet and greet. As noted in the caption, Alaina admits that she did the exact same thing when she first met Carrie Underwood on the set of American Idol. This got Lauren thinking about the kind of impact she is making on young fans with her music.

“I got so excited when I saw Carrie in the room that I started sobbing,” Lauren writes. “After I said this to this little girl, I had this crazy moment. I thought, ‘Does my music have the same impact on her that Carrie’s music has on me?!’ I can only hope that my music means as much to little girls (and people of all ages) as Carrie’s music means to me.”

It’s been eight years since Lauren Alaina was the runner up to Scotty McCreery on American Idol, at just seventeen years old. While the show was a great step for her and her career, it hasn’t been plain sailing the whole way. From a whirlwind debut album after the show, it took six years before her second record, ‘Road Less Traveled’, was released. 

When Taylor Magazine sat down with Lauren, she reminisced about her trips to Nashville when she was still a young girl. “I recorded a little CD and I took a bunch of them to Music Row and I went there in my cowgirl hat, knocked on the doors and gave them my CDs. That didn’t work out,” she laughed. “Getting into the music industry was a lot of guessing and hoping for the best.”

We caught up with Lauren while she was in London, and discussed everything from writing songs about painful life experiences, what she wished she’d known on American Idol, and the album that changed her life. 

“I just recently wrote a song about my stepdad who passed away in October and I cried the whole writing session. But then you get this really amazing song. The reward is worth the digging. Music heals, and that’s why I fell in love with it, that’s why everyone fell in love with it. If I can be a part of that, that’s amazing.” – Lauren Alaina

Taylor Magazine: How did you get into country music? Tell us a little bit about your journey.

Lauren Alaina: I grew up in Rossville, Georgia, where country music is definitely the most popular kind of music. I grew up listening to R&B and Pop, and all kinds of music, but country always felt the most true to me because of where I grew up . It talks about a lot of things that happen in Georgia. I started singing at three years old, and fell in love with music very early on. It was always my favourite thing to do, to sing and write songs. I don’t remember ever making a conscious decision to be a singer. It was just kind of always that way.

Getting into the music industry was a lot of guessing and hoping for the best. I started travelling to Nashville when I was 11/12. I recorded a little CD and I took a bunch of them to Music Row, and I went there in my cowgirl hat, knocked on the doors and gave them my CDs. That didn’t work out, but I ended up singing downtown. I sang with bands on Broadway and then I was on American Idol. That changed everything for me. I had to work really hard for five or six years to get actual success on radio. It’s been a lot of hard work, but it’s worth it.

Taylor Magazine: What’s your favourite part of what you do and what’s the most challenging part?

Lauren Alaina: Being on stage, or the meet and greets are my favourite parts. The most challenging is definitely being away from home so much and missing holidays and things. My nephews get twice as big every time I see them!

Taylor Magazine: What’s it like to be in the UK and to be performing here?

Lauren Alaina: The fans here are unlike any I’ve ever been in front of. They’re very excited, they know the music and it’s far away from home, so that’s always surprising to me. It feels like America, but older. I’m here for three weeks, and that’s a long time to be away – typically I’ll be gone for a week at most! We just played the Dixie Fields Festival, and I was really ready for this tour because the fans were amazing and knew all the words to ‘Ladies In The 90s’. They were screaming it so loud I let them take over a chorus!
